Consultation with the Chairs of the Clinical Research Ethics Committee/Animal Experiments Ethics Committee/Ethics Commission

As a result of the consultation;

It was noted that requesting a training on Good Clinical Practices from the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (T.C. Ministry of Health) would be very useful for students proposing thesis topics.

Furthermore, especially in cases of thesis title changes, it was decided that for the Clinical Research Ethics Committee and Animal Experiments Ethics Committee, the proposed title change must first be communicated to the relevant committee, and after approval, submitted to the Institute Administrative Board. According to Article 7 (k) of the Gazi University Local Animal Experiments Ethics Committee Directive, ‘After obtaining committee approval, changes in the project must be reported in writing by the project principal investigator and approval obtained. Additionally, signed declarations and waiver petitions must be obtained for changes in researchers involved in the study’, the requirement to obtain Ethics Committee approval for thesis title changes must be fulfilled. This information will be communicated to all department heads, who will ensure that all faculty members guide their students to follow this procedure for title changes. It was also decided to add these provisions to the Thesis Title Change Forms used in our institute.

However, for the Ethics Commission, in cases of thesis title changes discussed at the Institute Administrative Board, approval can only be granted if the Ethics Commission is informed and a response letter is received from the Commission. Therefore, title change procedures should proceed with attention to maximum deadlines, considering the Ethics Commission meeting durations. This information will be communicated to all department heads and, through them, to all advisors, faculty, and graduate students. It was also agreed that this requirement should be included in our Thesis Title Change Form.
