The Institute of Health Sciences Bid Farewell to Its Graduates

Our Institute, the Institute of Health Sciences, bid farewell to its 2024–2025 Academic Year graduates with a graduation ceremony. The ceremony, held at the Faculty of Pharmacy Conference Hall, was attended by our Rector Prof. Dr. Uğur Ünal, our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Tezer, our Secretary General Mustafa Afşar, our Institute Director Prof. Dr. Saniye Bilici, as well as deans, academics, and students.

Following the moment of silence and the National Anthem, the ceremony continued with a musical performance and opening speeches. In her speech, our Institute Director Prof. Dr. Saniye Bilici provided information about the academic structure of our Institute and its ongoing education and training activities. Stating that the Institute was established in 1982, Prof. Dr. Bilici noted that education and training activities are carried out in 36 doctoral and 46 master’s programs within 45 departments. She also stated that approximately 4,800 graduates have been awarded to date and wished success to our graduates in their professional lives.

After the speech of our Institute Director Prof. Dr. Saniye Bilici, our Rector Prof. Dr. Uğur Ünal addressed the participants. Describing our University as a “deep-rooted plane tree,” Prof. Dr. Ünal emphasized that our University educates qualified graduates in many fields ranging from education and culture to art, sports, and health. Noting that graduates of our University can be found serving in different fields all across Türkiye, Prof. Dr. Ünal expressed that they take pride in our graduates.

Stating that our University will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its establishment next year, our Rector Prof. Dr. Ünal highlighted the importance of contributions by our academic staff to the events to be organized within this scope.

Noting that significant services are carried out in the field of health at our University, our Rector Prof. Dr. Ünal stated that our University continues to contribute to society through its educational activities as well as its health services.

Describing master’s and doctoral studies as “a labor of love,” our Rector Prof. Dr. Ünal congratulated our graduates, their families, and our academics who contributed throughout this process, and wished success to our graduates.

Awards were presented by our Rector Prof. Dr. Uğur Ünal to the owners of the most successful theses in the field of social contribution. Within the scope of the ceremony, graduation certificates and commemorative gifts prepared for the day were presented to our graduates.
After our Rector departed from the program, graduation certificates were presented to the graduates by our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Tezer. During the presentation of the certificates, our Institute Director Prof. Dr. Saniye Bilici expressed her gratitude to our deans, department heads, and the graduates’ advisors for their contributions and support to the ceremony.

The doctoral dissertation titled “Development and In Vitro – In Situ Evaluations of Exemestane-Loaded Self-Emulsifying Drug Delivery Systems” by Burcu TİMUR, conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Zeynep Şafak TEKSİN, faculty member of the Faculty of Pharmacy in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology at the Institute of Health Sciences, was awarded the “Best Doctoral Thesis Award in Health Sciences” within the scope of the 2025 Council of Higher Education (YÖK) Outstanding Achievement Awards. This prestigious award was presented by the President of the Republic of Türkiye, H.E. Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, during the 2025–2026 Academic Year Opening Ceremony of the Council of Higher Education held on October 9, 2025, with the participation of YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol ÖZVAR. We sincerely congratulate our esteemed advisor and dear student and wish them continued success.

The doctoral thesis titled “Transcriptional and Post-Transcriptional Epigenetic Changes in Male Infertility” by Dr. Süheyla Esra ÖZKOÇER, a 2024 Ph.D. graduate of our Institute’s Department of Medical Biology and Genetics, completed under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ece KONAÇ, was awarded the First Prize in the Biennial Graduate Thesis Awards by the Society of Medical Biology and Genetics at the 19th Congress of Medical Biology and Genetics held in Bodrum between October 27–30, 2025. We congratulate our student and advisor and wish them continued success.

The article titled “Digital Storytelling in the Symptom Management of Pediatric Oncology Patients: A Randomized Controlled Study Based on Peplau’s Interpersonal Relations Theory”, derived from the doctoral dissertation of Birgül ERDOĞAN, a 2025 Ph.D. graduate of our Institute’s Department of Nursing under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Naime ALTAY, was awarded the First Prize in the Experimental Study Category at the 9th National, 5th International Mediterranean, and 4th International Pediatric Nursing Congress held in Mersin between November 5–8, 2025. We congratulate our student and advisor and wish them continued success.

The Information Meeting on Quality and Supervision Processes in Graduate Education was held for the academic staff.
