An event titled “Awakening from Digital to Traditional, from Screen to Field” was organized by our university's Graduate School of Health Sciences and Graduate School of Neuroscience and Neurotechnology. The event, held in front of the Faculty of Technology, featured the promotion of Kokpar (Kökbörü), a traditional Turkish sport.
The opening speech of the event was delivered by our Graduate School Director, Prof. Dr. Saniye Bilici. In her speech, Prof. Dr. Saniye Bilici stated that with today's developing technology, children in particular have become dependent on digital technologies such as television and mobile phones. Noting that they organized this event to draw attention to the harms of this addiction and to direct children towards traditional Turkish sports and games, Prof. Dr. Saniye Bilici emphasized that Gazi University plays a pioneering role in this regard.
Our Vice Rector, Prof. Dr. Necdet Hayta, also made evaluations regarding screen addiction observed in children and youth in his speech, stating that they aimed to draw attention to the health of children and young people through this event.
Emphasizing that screen addiction, which is becoming increasingly widespread among children and youth, also threatens public health, Prof. Dr. Necdet Hayta stated that the digital transformation has also increased the longing for traditional games, sports, and cultural values. Drawing attention to the importance of raising individuals who can use technology effectively while also preserving their traditional values, Prof. Dr. Necdet Hayta thanked everyone who contributed to the organization of the event.
Following the speeches, a Kokpar (Kökbörü) demonstration was performed. Our Vice Rector, Prof. Dr. Necdet Hayta, visited the stands set up in the event area and received information from the students.
